Border security isn’t violence @dudeblade I came to this country from Colombia. I know what violent political parties look like. I know what it is to moving into a foreign country with nothing. No one has the right to immigrate without following the rules set by the society they are entering.
Putting kids in cages is just as bad as what the nazis did. Border security shouldn’t mean separating kids from their parents as a deterent. It shouldn’t mean that a president should call nazis “Very fine people.” It shouldn’t mean that they send fucking bombs to media outlets that are critical of trump. And even if that last one happened, then it should be condemned by everyone. Not just Democrats.

Hey you’re talking to someone who went through the process and actually know what they’re talking about. If people are crossing over illegally, they seperate the children from the adults for a maximum of 21 days because there is rampent child trafficking at the borders. My uncle was separated from his daughter because unlike my family he was coming over illegally, but it was a really good thing because he was sexually abusing her and she ended up in the US with her step aunt and my cousins, and my uncle was deported because of his criminal history. I understand that you’ve been given a different perspective on the situation, but you need to understand that the media often portrays things with half the facts. Just like how that quote was put into the wrong context. And yes, that bomber needed his teeth handed to him, but so did the Democrat that shot the republican politician at the baseball game. Party lines always have their share of radicals, in the US that is not currently representative of the whole.
Read about Godwin’s law. You’re not speaking rationally right now. After Hitler gained power he also took control of the press to publish propaganda. That is fascism. Resentment for the press is not. That happens in every political party. The dnc just discluded Fox News. The democratic party’s symbol is a donkey to mock the press that was calling democrats “jackasses”. All political parties have some sense of hate for the press. That’s not equivalent to nazism or Hitler. That’s why the first amendment is important.

They have a LOT of similarities. NOT just the discrediting the press thing. I’m really happy that your cousin got to get away from her abusive father, but that’s a pretty rare thing. Every other instance is just because they decided to cross the boarder illegally. Which is a misdemeanor, NOT something that should be punished by having your kids separated from their parents. The argument of “They might just be pretending” is something cooked up by fox news to justify separating kids from their parents at the boarder.

At least I can provide sources on how horrible trump is. That outlier of your cousin isn’t enough proof that the separation is completely good at all. The trauma doesn’t leave the kids, and the fact that so many of trump’s officials are constantly trying to dodge the question as to how many kids are being detained is very telling.

My families story isn’t a rare thing. You’re speaking to someone who has actually experienced these things. Who has been to the border and seen the situation many times. This is the mundane. Human trafficking and child abuse happens every day at the border. That’s why people detained for crossing illegally are separated and investigated. It’s not a punishment. All you’re doing is repeating misinformation. Which hurts victims of abuse and child trafficking.
Saying my cousin is an outlier is just an excuse, it’s not true and it’s not realistic, abusive people try to take children across everyday. You aren’t helping anybody, you’re hurting people. Boarder security dodging loaded questions isn’t proof of corruption. You, refusing to believe that child trafficking or abuse is prevented by investigating illegal people, does not help people. It hurts them. Wither you want to believe it or not.

Ok. Sorry for the slow reply. I kind of want to broach this conversation more delicately, and in a more civil way than I was. Its a heated topic that personally affects me, so I dont want to be a bitch about it. You are painfully misinformed about what is going on at the border. And I really do feel the need to clear a few things up with you.
Yes. kids in cages = bad. that’s not happening. Yes. kids being abused = bad. And there is a humanitarian issue down at the border right now. But you are misinformed about both the cause, and what the issue actually is.
No, we are talking about the exact same thing. But the “10,000+ kids in cages”? That isn’t happening. Media representation of CBP/ORR centers is normally incorrect. The conditions are bad right now (legitimately horrifying, actually), due to lack of funding in face of the Central American Refugee Crisis of 2014. but children are not being kept in cages, and the situation is different from how you have been told.
For the sake of not making this post a mile long, let me shorten things:
children aren’t in cages
the average child/family is detained for 21 one days in CBP/ORR dormitories.
it is abnormal for children to be separated from their families if it is obvious that they are legitimately related.
when children are separated from accompanying adults, it’s to make sure that adult is their parent/guardian.
We do have a humanitarian crisis at the border.
The crisis is lack of humanitarian and legal resources for illegal immigrants.
both of the political parties are trying to solve this problem, but due to the nature of two-party politics, no one will come to an agreement.
that’s it. that’s literally the whole problem.
The trump administration is the one that put the border crisis in the spotlight and made it a conversation. Trump did not cause or even worsen the situation (as of yet).
The current situation is not the result of EvilRepublicans™ ripping children from their mothers arms and putting them in concentration camps- because that’s not what is happening in the first place.
The current situation is the result of massive migration suddenly overtaking border controls means of control, and controversial legislation haphazardly implemented in 2014 in response to mass-migration. It’s a problem that was inherited by the Trump administration, not caused or even worsened by it. The reason that there has been so much media attention on the issue is Trump campaigned on the border crisis, but each media outlet spins the story respective to their own agenda.
